Manton’s Creek Cellar Door

A cellar door and restaurant in Shoreham, Mornington Peninsula. Completed in 2018.
The Brief

First, to soften the appearance of the existing building and concrete retaining walls so it fits into the larger landscape context. Second, to accommodate clients’ landscaping ideas blending an exotic and native plant palette. Next, to hide utilities such as water tanks and allow for pedestrian flow towards the cellar door and restaurant. And finally, to create a low-maintenance design.

The process

A good working relationship with clients allowing for dialogue, work with the existing landscape team.

A good working relationship with the clients allowed for dialogue. We were able to work with the existing landscape team. The design referenced the architectural style of the buildings, the Italian heritage of the clients and their aesthetics.
The result

An inviting wilding garden that blends with the architecture of the vineyard.

We created an inviting wilding garden that blends with the architecture of the vineyard. Elements of control in the design, using hedging plants, contrasts more free-flowing sections with swathes of native grasses to introduce the wilding effect.
