Ten Minutes By Tractor

Redevelopment of the restaurant and cellar door garden.
The Brief

Redevelopment of the restaurant and cellar door garden, to forge a strong connection between the garden and the restaurant.

The process

We removed and replaced local rocks into the landscape to form installations that provoked a sense of place.

We developed the shape of the restaurant vegetable garden to be reflective of the historic agricultural buildings on site. Consulting with the chef and restaurant staff, we chose edible plants, both native and exotic, with bright colours so the garden and restaurant narrative had cohesion. The garden, like the menu, changes with the seasons. Through the excavation work we removed and replaced local rocks into the landscape to form installations that provoked a sense of place. It was important to us that the materials reflected the unique location of the property.
The result

Like good wine, this garden will mature beautifully with age.

We strengthened the brand through the narrative of the garden design. There is a real sense of wilding in all of the gardens at this site. As guests enter the promenade garden, they can engage in the beautiful colour and form presented to them through the flower planting. The restaurant garden is a vibrant canvas best viewed from above. The contrast with the black buildings brings all the palette and plant details into sharp relief. Like good wine, this garden will mature beautifully with age.
